Biffle Gives No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford First Top-10 of 2007 with Seventh-Place Finish in Bristol
Bristol, TN (March 26, 2007) – Greg Biffle was a calm driver Saturday in Brewco Motorsports’ No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford, and his patience paid off in the form of a seventh-place finish in the Sharpie Mini 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
After a disappointing weekend in Atlanta, the No. 37 Brewco team rebounded with a vengeance in Bristol. The Cub Cadet Ford was the fastest car in the field for Friday’s second practice session and during qualifying, Biffle guided the Brewco Motorsports’ entry to a sixth-place starting position.
Shortly after the drop of the green flag in Saturday’s race, Biffle radioed to Crew Chief Newt Moore that the No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford was a bit tight, but as the laps ticked-off, he said the car was “coming to me a bit.” The first pit stop for the Brewco team came on lap 111, when Moore called for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment. Biffle noted that the No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford was still a bit too tight, and more adjustments were made during the next pit stop on lap 188.
By lap 200, Biffle was running in the seventh position, but was recording lap times as fast as the race leaders. On lap 233 the Brewco team decided to give up the track position to continue work on the No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford. After a four-tire change and wedge adjustment, Biffle returned to the track in 11th place.
“I felt like we had to come in on that last pit stop,” said Biffle. “The Cub Cadet Ford went from being tight to pretty darn loose, so we needed to tighten it back up a bit more to make sure we were there at the end.”
Biffle was back in the top-10 by lap 250, and passed three more cars in the final 50 laps of the race to finish in seventh place. He ran outside of the top-10 for only 13 of the 300 laps in the race, and avoided the race’s 12 cautions along the way.
“I thought we could have picked up a few more positions and finished the race higher than we did, but the lap-down cars really held us up there at the end,” Biffle said. ”A top-ten at Bristol is a tough thing to achieve though, so all in all I thought it was a good weekend for us.”
“Greg did a great job of being patient and hanging in there for the whole race,” said Moore. “Our guys did great in the pits again this weekend as well. This type of result is what we’re capable of each and every weekend. I know this did a lot of the team’s morale, after the tough start to our season, and we’re looking forward to carrying this positive momentum into Nashville in a few weeks.”
The No. 37 Brewco team heads to Richmond International Raceway on Tuesday and Wednesday this week for a Busch Series testing session. Following the test and an off-weekend for the NASCAR Busch Series, the No. 37 Brewco Ford will make its way to Nashville Superspeedway for the Pepsi 300 on April 7. Television coverage of the race begins at 3:00 pm EST on ESPN2.
