McMurray, No. 37 Yard-Man Brewco Team Score Top-25 Finish in Chicago
Joliet, Illinois (July 14, 2007) – Jamie McMurray and Brewco Motorsports’ No. 37 Yard-Man Ford team overcame a difficult practice session for a 23rd place finish in the USG Durock 300 at Chicagoland Speedway Saturday afternoon.
The No. 37 Brewco crew began working on the set-up of their Yard-Man Ford right from the beginning of the weekend. They struggled in the two practice sessions on Friday, but felt they gained ground overall in getting ready for the race Saturday afternoon.
“We knew we had a lot of work to do, but we were making progress,” said Crew Chief Stewart Cooper. “We felt like we rebounded from the practice sessions with a good qualifying effort (24th) and we knew we had something there that could make us competitive in the race.”
McMurray reported early on in the race that the Yard-Man Ford was “a little tight, but not bad.” He moved up to the 19th position by lap 57, which is when the Brewco crew made a green flag pit stop for four tires with air pressure adjustments and fuel. The changes made the Yard-Man Ford “really loose,” according to McMurray, and the team pit again on lap 80 to make more adjustments. The Brewco crew would fight alternating tight and loose conditions on the Yard-Man Ford throughout the remainder of the race and McMurray would even overcome a spin into the grass on the frontstretch on lap 152. He and the Yard-Man Ford finished the USG Durock 300 in the 23rd position, two laps down.
“We kept making the adjustments we thought were necessary, based on the info we had,” Cooper said. “It was a long afternoon and even though all of our guys worked hard and we had great pit stops, we didn’t get the result we expected. As a team, all of us at Brewco are looking forward to heading back to the shop, regrouping and getting ready for this weekend at Gateway.”
Next for the No. 37 Brewco team will be the Busch Series 250 on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 8:30 pm EST at Gateway International Raceway. Television coverage of the race begins at 8 pm EST on ESPN2.
