Promising Daytona Run Ends Early for McMurray,
No. 37 Yard-Man Ford
Daytona, FL (February 19, 2007) - An early wreck in the Orbitz 300 collected Brewco Motorsports’ No. 37 Yard-Man Ford Fusion, putting a halt to hard-charging Jamie McMurray at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.
McMurray qualified the Yard-Man Ford deep in the field in the 30th position.
“We knew we wouldn’t qualify as well since we were more set-up for the race,” said Crew Chief Newt Moore. “We knew we’d be fine when the green flag dropped though.”
The No. 37 Brewco Ford was strong early on, and had moved up to the 17th position by lap six. McMurray was in 12th place when on lap 15 he fell victim to a wreck that involved 12 cars. The No. 37 Yard-Man Ford sustained heavy damage, but fortunately McMurray was unhurt. The Brewco team began working on the damage behind pit road but it quickly became apparent to Crew Chief Moore that returning to the track would be a challenge.
“We completely lost the nose of the car,” said Moore. “That’s pretty devastating when you’re at a track like Daytona and aerodynamics are critical. We looked at the situation and felt that if we got back out there, we’d just be putting Jamie and the other drivers at risk, so we took our car back to the garage.”
The No. 37 Yard-Man Ford ended the race in 42nd place.
“That’s not the way I wanted to start off the year in the Yard-Man Ford,” McMurray said. “We had a great car and were moving up through the field - we just got caught up in someone else’s wreck. I hate it for the Brewco guys, Yard-Man, and our fans, but I know we’ll turn things around next week in California.”
Next for the No. 37 Yard-Man Ford will be the Stater Bros. 300 at California Speedway on February 24. Television coverage begins at 7:00 pm EST on ESPN2.
