Casey Atwood and the Brewco Motorsports #37 team have an impressive history at Dover International Raceway. Dover is the sight of Atwood’s last NASCAR Busch Series win and a track he has had lots of success on. Therefore, going into qualifying Atwood and the Kickbutt Amped Energy Ballz team were anticipating a great day on Saturday. Casey Atwood and the #37 Kickbutt Amped Energy Ballz team would not disappoint and qualified in the 9th position. After the impressive qualifying run, Atwood and team were ready for the racing action to begin.
Prior to the RoadLoans.com 200 going green, crew chief Stewart Cooper radioed to his driver and team, “Good job qualifying today team. Let’s keep it up and not make any mistakes during the race and we can get a good finish.” On lap 19, Atwood radioed to the team, “I’m tight behind these cars.” However, he was instructed to stay out and not pit under the caution. By lap 32, Atwood was running in the 17th position being cautious with his tight racecar. Under the next caution, Atwood would pit the #37 Kickbutt Amped Energy Ballz Ford Fusion for four tires and fuel. Cooper radioed to his team, “Good Stop Guys!” as Atwood exited the pits.
During the next caution period Atwood updated the team on the handling of the car as “It is loose off and a little tight in the middle.” On lap 59, Atwood was running in the 19th position when the 6th caution flag of the race occurred. Atwood was told to stay out and not pit; during this caution, Atwood and Cooper discussed different adjustments to get the handling of the car perfect. By the next caution flag, on lap 94, Atwood told the crew his car was loose on both ends. The #37 Kickbutt Amped Energy Ballz team responded by tightening the car up with trackbar adjustments. Stewart Cooper kept encouraging his driver by telling him, “Just keep doing the best you can. I know you are; we will get the car even better on the next stop.”
After going back to green flag conditions, Atwood radioed in “It’s not better, it’s real loose.” During the caution flag on lap 128 the #37 Kickbutt Amped Energy Ballz team made major changes to the trackbar and put a rubber in the left rear. Atwood thought the car was more comfortable up off the corner but was also tight. When the caution came out on lap 167 the team pitted and backed up on previous adjustments they had made to the car. Those adjustments seemed to really change the handling of the car for the last 30 laps because Atwood started making his way through the field; Casey Atwood and the #37 Kickbutt Amped Energy Ballz Ford Fusion finished the race in 14th position.
