Promising Weekend Halted for McMurray, Brewco’s No. 37 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Ford in Dover
Dover, DE (June 2, 2007) – A fast practice session and solid qualifying effort had Jamie McMurray and the No. 37 Brewco Motorsports crew excited about the Dover 200 NASCAR Busch Series race. However, concerns about a loose wheel brought about an unscheduled pit stop for McMurray and the No. 37 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Ford, effectively ending a top-ten run for the Brewco team at Dover International Speedway Saturday afternoon.
In the first practice session of the race weekend Friday, McMurray and the Brewco team were 11th fastest. On Saturday morning, McMurray qualified the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Ford in the top-10 (10th place) and he and the Brewco crew prepared for the race.
Following the first caution of the Dover 200 on lap 11, McMurray radioed to Crew Chief Newt Moore that the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Ford was “a little loose, but pretty good.” Just 20 laps later, McMurray was in seventh place, running the fastest lap times on the track. But on lap 64, McMurray radioed to Moore that he felt like the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Ford had a loose wheel. The No. 37 Brewco team pitted for fuel and four tires just six laps later. McMurray returned to the track in 30th place, two laps down. The team worked throughout the race to get back on the lead lap, but ended the event in 20th place, two laps down.
“It was an unfortunate end to a promising weekend,” said Moore. “For the second race in a row Jamie was running unbelievable lap times. We knew we had a top-five car out there - it’s just too bad we had to make that unscheduled stop. I’m proud of all our Brewco guys for hanging in there and working hard on our race car all weekend. We’re disappointed now, but we’re excited about the next two weeks at Nashville and Kentucky. These are our home tracks and we’ll have a lot of friends and family in the pits and the grandstands, so we want to bring home a much needed win for them and for our sponsors.”
Next for the Brewco team will be the Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, June 9. Greg Biffle and Cub Cadet return to the No. 37 Brewco Ford. Television coverage of the race begins at 6:30 pm EST on ESPN2.
