Biffle 20th in Cub Cadet Ford at Inaugural NASCAR Busch Series Race in Montreal

Brake Issues Halt Strong Run for Biffle and Cub Cadet in Montreal

Montreal, Canada (August 4, 2007)…The first trip for the NASCAR Busch Series to Montreal, Quebec, Canada will not be soon forgotten.  Greg Biffle drove the #37 Cub Cadet Ford Fusion to a 20th place finish after losing his brakes on lap 57 of 75.

Biffle, who practiced the car during the “open test session” on Thursday, had a busy weekend flying between Montreal and Pocono, Pennsylvania, site of the Nextel Cup race.  In fact, the next time Biffle would step foot in the car was just prior to the green flag of the NAPA Auto Parts 200 Presented by Dodge.  Casey Atwood assisted the team on Friday and Saturday by practicing and qualifying the car for the #37 team and Greg Biffle.

On the day that saw Martin Brodeur, NHL standout, holding the pit sign for the #37 team at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Biffle was having a strong run through the field.  Biffle started in the rear of the 43-car field because he was not the driver that qualified the car.  However, it would not take long for the #37 to rapidly move through the field with lap times mirroring the leaders.  Crew chief, Newt Moore, methodically reminded Biffle to take care of his car and commended his moves through the field.  On lap 23, the #37 Cub Cadet Ford was up to the 17th position.  A few laps later Moore radioed “Beautiful” to his driver after gaining four more positions.

Under caution, Moore and Biffle discussed different scenarios on how the race was going to unfold.  Together, they decided to “stick to the original game plan” and play the fuel mileage game.  The #37 team would pit several laps later for 4 tires and fuel.  After pitting, Biffle continued to move through the field; on lap 49 Biffle reported he had “No brakes” despite running in the 8th position.

Havoc would break loose eight laps later.  On lap 57 Biffle radioed Moore his brakes were completely gone and he could not slow to turn the car.  Moore brought Biffle to the garage to change the brake calipers.  The crew quickly repaired the car, losing only two laps.  After repairs, Biffle radioed in the “car is perfect.”  Biffle rallied to pass several more cars in the closing laps to finish in the 20th position.  After taking the checkered flag, Newt radioed to Biffle, “Awesome job at the beginning.  We will have the car ready for Watkins Glen next week.”

Greg Biffle will again be driving the #37 Cub Cadet Ford at Watkins Glen this weekend.  The NASCAR Busch Series makes their visit to New York for the Zippo 200 at The Glen on Saturday, August 11th. Practice begins on Friday, with qualifying set for 11:35 a.m. ET on Saturday. The 82-lap, 200.9-mile race will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET.
