McMurray Takes No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford to 19th Place Finish in Richmond
Richmond, VA (May 6, 2007) – Jamie McMurray fought grip issues, but was able to pilot Brewco Motorsports’ No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford Fusion to a solid 19th place finish in the Circuit City 250 at Richmond International Raceway Friday night.
McMurray qualified the Brewco entry in 22nd place. He was up to the 19th position by lap 11 of the 250-lap contest and radioed to Crew Chief Newt Moore that the car felt “pretty good.” By lap 25 however, McMurray indicated to the Brewco crew that “he needed more overall grip,” but the balance on the car was still good.
The first opportunity to pit came for the Cub Cadet team on lap 82 and Moore called for four tires with air pressure adjustments, fuel, and tape off the nose of the car. McMurray and the No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford were hit from behind on lap 88 during one of the race’s seven caution flags. The Brewco team pitted to repair the damage to the left rear quarter panel of the Ford Fusion, and McMurray went back out on the track in the 25th position.
Further adjustments were made to the Cub Cadet Ford on a lap 139 pit stop when McMurray reported that the car was “loose in and tight in the middle.” The team pit again in the 18th position on lap 224 to make more adjustments to fight the loose conditions. The Brewco Cub Cadet Ford ended the race in the 19th spot.
“Jamie did a great job staying after it,” said Moore. “We had a rough night in the pits and but we’ll work on improving our pit stops this week back at the shop. We’ll keep our heads high and prepare for the next race. The whole team is looking forward to having Greg (Biffle) in the Cub Cadet Ford next weekend, so we’re excited about our chances on Friday night.”
Next for the No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford with Greg Biffle at the wheel will be the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 at Darlington Raceway on Friday May 11. Television coverage of the race begins at 8:00 pm EST on ESPN2.
