Biffle 11th in Cub Cadet Ford at Watkins Glen International

Ill Timed Caution Leaves Biffle and Cub Cadet Just Outside the Top 10

Watkins Glen, NY (August 11, 2007)…The last road-course race for the NASCAR Busch Series in 2007 saw Greg Biffle and the #37 Cub Cadet Ford Fusion finish in the 11th position.

Biffle started the day in the 13th position and was content saving his equipment for the end of the race.  On lap 2, Biffle radioed in to crew chief Newt Moore, “The car’s a little bit tight.”  Moore responded, “Looking at lap 19.”  Biffle hit pit road on lap 19 for four tires and fuel while the Cub Cadet Pit Crew made a slight pre-planned adjustment.

On lap 34, while running in the 15th position, Biffle radioed in the car was “loose to the left and tight to the right.”  A few laps later the yellow flag flew for a full course caution.  Using pit strategy the #37 Cub Cadet Ford stayed out on track and moved up to the third position.  Moore radioed to his driver about pitting in several laps, “in about 10 laps we won’t have to stop again and everyone else will.”

With 35 laps to go, Greg Biffle took the lead for the first time during the Zippo 200 at the Glen.  The strategy was to pit on the next lap knowing the #37 Cub Cadet Ford could make it to the finish on fuel.  However, strategy was not on the team’s side as the caution flag came out for debris the next lap.

The #37 Cub Cadet Ford pitted under caution for 4 tires, fuel, and a wedge adjustment while the other competitors only had to stop for a “splash” of fuel.  Moore radioed to Biffle, “We’ll see how it plays out” in reference to restarting in the 21st position.

Biffle drove his heart out and with 20 laps to go he had made his way back up to the 15th position.  Moore radioed, “Be smooth, go get ‘em.”  By the time the checkered flag would wave, Biffle had rebounded to the 11th position.  In a day that was up and down, Biffle and the Cub Cadet team earned that 11th position and moved the #37 team up three positions in the Owner’s Standings.
