McGilton Maintains Top-Five Points Position Following Kansas

KANSAS CITY, KS (April 30, 2007) - - After qualifying a career-best fourth (31.841 seconds, 169.593 MPH) Phillip McGilton and his Brewco Motorsports team were looking forward to the Kansas Lottery $150 Grand.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature rolled in one hour prior to race time soaking the speedway and delaying the start of the event. After a lengthy two-hour delay, the cars were fired and ready to go racing.

The field took the green and the caution for 15 circuits to speed up the drying process. At the green-flag start on lap 16, McGilton quickly tucked in line following his competitors before advancing into the top-three two laps later.

McGilton would maintain his position in the top-five for much of the event. The ARCA RE/MAX Series would run a majority of the event under the green flag setting up a caution-free round of pit stops.

As McGilton prepared to make his stop, his No. 47 Montgomery Equipment Ford Fusion began to sputter shutting off the engine forcing the Illinois native to coast into pit road.

When he reached his pit, the Brewco Motorsports team changed four tires, added Sunoco Racing fuel and sent McGilton back into competition. The car stalled leaving pit road, but quickly the rookie was able to refire his Ford and return to competition.

The damage had been done as McGilton lost two laps from the hiccup and would be forced to drive hard and outrun three other drivers to gather a finish inside the top-20.

He did that, beating Josh Allison, Jason Hedlesky and Frank Kapfhammer to the finish line collecting a disappointing 18th place effort.

“We had a great car. It was fast and we were going to have a good run, but we ran out of gas. I guess it’s one of those racing things. We would have liked to finish in the top-five but today just wasn’t our day. I want to thank our new sponsor Montgomery Equipment for coming on board for the rest of the season and we’ll get a better finish for them next Sunday at Winchester.”

With his finish Friday night, McGilton slipped to fourth in the point standings just ten markers from third place competitor Dexter Bean and thirty from second place runner Frank Kimmel.

Speaking of Winchester, that marks the next stop for the ARS (ARCA RE/MAX Series). The series returns to the ultra-fast and intimidating central-Indiana based track. McGilton will make another track debut in the Winchester Indiana 200.
