Atwood Takes No. 27 VIVA® Towels/Breast Cancer Research Foundation Ford to 17th Place Finish in Charlotte

Concord, NC (October 16, 2006) – Casey Atwood avoided 12 cautions and picked up 17 spots from his starting position to take the No. 27 VIVA® Towels/Breast Cancer Research Foundation Ford Fusion to a 17th place finish in the accident-filled Dollar General 300.

A late qualifying draw led Atwood to start the race under the lights at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in 34th place. However he maneuvered the No. 27 VIVA® Towels/BCRF Ford through the field and was in the 11th position by lap 50. The No. 27 team pitted several times for fuel, tires and adjustments, including a stop on lap 93. Unfortunately, an ill-timed caution on lap 96 put the No. 27 VIVA® Towels/BCRF Ford in the 30th position, two laps down.

“We were loose-in early in the race and that was the first time all weekend that happened to our car,” Atwood said. “(Crew Chief) Stewart (Cooper) and the guys did a great job trying to make the adjustments in the pits.”

The adjustments and changing track conditions led to tight conditions later in the race and Atwood struggled to get both of his laps back. The many caution flags – 12 for 56 laps, more than a quarter of the race - greatly hindered his efforts.

“The car just didn’t have the horsepower I needed on the restarts,” Atwood said. “It took about three-to-four laps for our No. 27 Ford to get wound-up. We were better on long green-flag runs, but because of all the cautions, we just couldn’t get any momentum going.”

Atwood finished the race in 17th place, two laps down. Only five of the 43 cars in the race finished on the lead lap.

“It was definitely a wild race – perfect for Friday the 13th,” Atwood said. “I’m glad we were able to get the No. 27 VIVA® Towels/BCRF Ford Fusion out of there in one piece, but I wish the result was better.”

This was the last weekend for Brewco Motorsports’ special VIVA® Towels/Breast Cancer Research Foundation pink paint scheme.

“We got a great reaction to the car both here at Charlotte and two weeks ago at Kansas,” said Atwood. “I know the whole team was proud to help raise awareness and funds for the BCRF and we want to remind our fans that they can still help us raise more funds by visiting www.brewco.com to buy our No. 27 pink hats and bid in our NASCAR memorabilia auction.”

Following an off-weekend, the No. 27 Brewco team will prepare for the Sam’s Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park on Saturday, October 28. Kimberly-Clark will feature its SCOTT® Brand Tissue on the No. 27 Brewco Ford Fusion in the race. Television coverage of the event begins at 2:00 pm EST on NBC.
