Lebanon, TN (June 12, 2006) – It was a weekend of first’s for Brewco Motorsports’ No. 66 team at Nashville Superspeedway. The Federated Auto Parts 300 marked the return of Greg Biffle to the Newt Moore-led team; his home for 27 races in 2005. This weekend also saw the debut of Cub Cadet as primary sponsor of the No. 66 Ford Fusion. Biffle capped off the highly anticipated weekend with a clean race and a strong finish; bringing the Cub Cadet Ford Fusion home in 7th place.
Biffle was pulling double duty in both the NEXTEL Cup race at Pocono and the Busch race in Nashville which meant he would be unable to practice the Cub Cadet Ford due to schedule conflicts. Jason Keller stepped in to help the Brewco Motorsports crew ready the Cub Cadet Ford for Biffle’s arrival. Biffle reached Nashville Superspeedway just in time to qualify the No. 66 Ford 21st.
The Cub Cadet Ford was too tight early in the Federated Auto Parts 300 but Biffle climbed steadily through the field and broke into the top 10 on lap 24, where he would remain for the majority of the night. The Brewco Motorsports team adjusted on the Cub Cadet Ford during the first two pit stops of the race. The changes seemed to help as Biffle was shown as high as 5th by lap 146.
Biffle was running 6th on lap 164 when he reported that the Cub Cadet Ford had gotten “really, really tight” and suspected that he might have a tire going down. Luckily, the caution flew just eight laps later. With four fresh tires and an air pressure adjustment, Biffle was back on the track in 7th place. The Cub Cadet Ford continued to be a handful for Biffle as he reported on lap 209 that he was out of brakes. Biffle held on to the Cub Cadet Ford and ended the race in the 7th position.
“That was an interesting night,” said Biffle. “The Cub Cadet Ford was pretty good there in the middle of the race but got really, really tight at the end. It was a decent first race back for me with Newt Moore and the Brewco Motorsports guys. I’m really glad to be back in this No. 66 car this year and to be driving for Cub Cadet. This was a solid top 10 for us so we’ll take it. We’ve got a really good car for Kentucky next week. I’m looking forward to getting out there and having another strong run with these guys.”
