Strong showing by Coleman, Brewco Federated team halted early in Salem
Salem, Indiana (April 24, 2006) – The weekend started the way the No. 62 Brewco Motorsports team and driver Brad Coleman had expected it to, but when it came to race time, things quickly changed. Coleman was the victim of an early wreck, and after leading the first 22 laps of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 by Federated Auto Parts, was eliminated from the race, finishing in 32nd place.
The weekend started off promising, as Coleman was the fastest of the 42 cars that participated in the Saturday practice session. He then went on to qualify on the pole and earned the Pork Pole Award, posting a time that was .335 seconds faster than the second place qualifier.
“It felt great getting my first ARCA Pork Pole,” Coleman said. “Hopefully it will be the first of many.”
At the start of the race Sunday, the No. 62 Federated Auto Parts Ford looked impressive, as Coleman began to put other cars a lap down as early as lap nine. He led the first 22 laps of the race, until a caution came out. On the lap 23 restart, Coleman was punted from behind by the No. 25 car, which eventually won the race. Race replays showed that Coleman and the Brewco team were the victims of an overaggressive driver. The damage to the Brewco car was extensive enough for Crew Chief Shawn Parker to indicate to the team that they were done for the day.
“I got hit in the rear on the start,” said Coleman “We had a great car this weekend. The Brewco guys worked really hard and I am really proud of them. It’s too bad - I felt really comfortable in the car and I really enjoy Salem. But we’re already looking forward and I know we’re going to go get them in Kentucky.”
Coleman and the No. 62 team will return to ARCA RE/MAX Series competition in the Harley-Davidson of Cincinnati 150 at Kentucky Speedway on May 13, 2006.
