Goeters strong in Return to Brewco Motorsports , finishes 14th in Mexico City

Mexico City, MX (March 7, 2006) – Hopes were high for Jorge Goeters and the No. 66 Brewco Motorsports team heading into the Telcel-Motorola 200.  After capturing the pole and running strong in the 2005 event, the team was excited to return with Goeters to Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

The weekend started off strong.  After posting the 18th fastest time in first practice, Goeters jumped to 8th on the speed chart during final practice with a lap time of 1:28.825.  The team was anticipating a top-five starting spot for the race after practice when Goeters reported that “the car right now is right where it needs to be.”

A second pole was not in the cards for the No. 66 Brewco Motorsports team but the top-five prediction proved accurate as Goeters ran the fifth fastest lap with a time of 1:28.497.  “We always try to get the pole,” said Goeters following qualifying.  “It’s two different races.  One was today and one is tomorrow.  My car is good and we have a setup that will help us in the race.”

When the green dropped on Sunday Goeters held the fifth position and remained in the top-five for the first 15 laps.  During the early green flag run, Goeters reported that the car was “an eight out of ten, very good.”

Green flag pit stops cycled through the field and the Brewco Motorsports No. 66 Ford Fusion made its way down pit road for four tires and fuel on lap 15.  When the caution flew four laps later Goeters was seen in 24th place.  The decision by crew chief Newt Moore to stay out brought Goeters up to 12th when the race restarted on lap 22.

Goeters climbed back into the top-10 on lap 23 and was running 9th when he received a pass-through penalty by NASCAR which knocked the No. 66 Ford Fusion down to 32nd.  By lap 43 Goeters was up to 14th place when another round of green flag pit stops came into play.  After reporting that the car was “perfect,” Goeters received four tires and fuel and went back on the track in the 27th position.

The Brewco Motorsports No. 66 Ford Fusion made its way back through the field and was shown in 10th place with 15 laps remaining.  On the following lap, Goeters spun in the esses which dropped him back to 26th.

Goeters gained 12 spots in the final 14 laps to bring the Brewco Motorsports No. 66 Ford home in 14th place.

"As always, nobody likes to get beat,” said Goeters.  “I was running good.  I was getting going there, and they made me pass though.  I had to come from the back, but that is racing.  I'm happy.  I enjoyed every lap."
