David Green, No. 27 Cottonelle® Brewco Team Race Report
Fontana, CA (September 5, 2006) – David Green and the Brewco Motorsports No. 27 Cottonelle® team turned a difficult practice session and a starting position deep in the field into a 26th place finish in the Ameriquest 300 at California Speedway Saturday night.
The No. 27 Brewco crew began working on the set-up of their Cottonelle® Ford right from the beginning of the weekend. They started off slow in the first practice session, but felt they gained ground by the end of the second session.
“We knew we had a lot of work to do, but we were making progress,” said Stewart Cooper, co-crew chief. “We didn’t expect qualifying to go the way it did (40th), but we knew that we had something there that could make us competitive in the race.”
Green reported early in the race that the car was a bit tight in the center, and a bit loose going into the corner. Despite the report, the Brewco team was encouraged early, having moved up nine positions from the start of the race to 31st place just 13 laps into the event. The work on the car started with the first pit stop on lap 29, when Cooper had his crew pit for four tires, fuel, and trackbar adjustments.
“We kept making the adjustments we thought were necessary, based on the info we had,” Cooper said. “It was a long night and even though all of our guys worked hard and we had great pit stops, we didn’t get the result we expected. We’ll head back to the shop and look at everything and get ready for a turnaround in Richmond.”
Next for the No. 27 Brewco team will be the Emerson Radio 250 at Richmond International Raceway on Friday September 8. Television coverage of the race begins at 7:30 pm EST on TNT.
