David Green, No. 27 Cottonelle® Brewco Team Score Top-25 Finish at Chicagoland

Joliet, Illinois (July 10, 2006) – David Green and the No. 27 Cottonelle® Ford Fusion Brewco Motorsports team fought grip issues and a starting position deep in the field for a 22nd place finish at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois Saturday afternoon.

Concerns about tire grip started early in the weekend for the Brewco crew.

“We brought our Charlotte/Kentucky car which had performed very well at those two tracks,” said Green. “With that – and using the Charlotte tire at Chicago over the weekend – we really felt like we could fine-tune the set-up for this race.

“However, we noticed a lack of grip very early on in practice which really had us throwing a lot of changes at our car,” Green said. “From the first to the second practice sessions, our car was a lot better, but we still needed more front and rear grip, and we were determined to change whatever it took to get it.”

The No. 27 Cottonelle® Ford had an early qualifying draw and qualified for the USG Durock 300 deep in the field in 38th place. The hot afternoon temperatures didn’t do anything to help the issues the Brewco team was having with the tires.

“The race showed us a hotter and slicker track, which compounded problems we were feeling in the Friday practice sessions,” Green said. “The car really struggled with grip and sort of had a mind of its own. My guys never gave up in adjusting the chassis to try to get the car some grip. I’m proud of my team’s effort, and ‘never give-up’ attitude.

“This really shows us how much the tires have changed the needs of the chassis and how it impacts our notes from last year’s races,” Green continued. “We obviously made the most of the day in Joliet by not giving up and fighting to the very end.  I know (Co-Crew Chiefs) Stewart (Cooper), Shawn (Parker) and I are more determined than ever to find out what it takes to make this new tire work. We feel like we got there at the Charlotte and Kentucky races, and now we have to find that grip for future races at tracks like Michigan and Kansas.”

Next for the No. 27 Brewco team will be the New England 200 at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire on Saturday July 15. Television coverage of the race begins at 3 pm EST on TNT.
