David Green, No. 27 Kleenex® Brewco Team Score Top-10 at Gateway
Madison, IL (July 31, 2006) – David Green and the No. 27 Kleenex® Ford Fusion team scored their best finish of the season and their second top-ten finish of 2006 this Saturday after a seventh-place showing in the Busch Silver Celebration 250 at Gateway International Raceway. Green was the highest finishing NASCAR Busch Series regular in the race.
The top-ten finish capped a strong weekend for the Brewco Motorsports team, as the No. 27 Ford was fast right from the start.
“Last year at this time we were coming off a big win (Pikes Peak), so I really felt this was a race that we could turn the corner,” Green said. “Practice was really good and consistent for us, and so was our qualifying effort. Our top-ten showing in practice and seventh-place qualifying spot were tributes to my team’s preparation at the shop, and their work ethic at the track.
“We made a few changes after practice that we thought would help us get through the turn three bumps,” Green said. “I felt the changes were keeping us from being a winning car, so (Co-Crew Chief) Stewart (Cooper) and I got together and decided on other changes. However, as the race started, those new adjustments really caused us some fits at the beginning.”
The Brewco team pitted on lap 39 to make adjustments and continued to work on the car with each pit stop. The communication among the team members and hard work by the crew allowed Green to keep the No. 27 Kleenex® Ford running in the top-ten throughout the race.
“That’s the kind of race my Kleenex® team and I deserve each week,” Green said. “Our pit stops were good and with all the adjustments we did, it was a very rewarding finish. My guys were winners Saturday night and I can promise you that we’re taking the same car – and same momentum and excitement – that we had at Gateway on to Indianapolis this weekend.
“What a great way to cap off the week’s celebration of Anheuser-Busch's 25th year sponsoring the series, and this year my team is also celebrating Kimberly-Clark’s 13th year with the Busch Series,” Green said. “Stewart and the guys did a great job by never giving up on adjustments to the car. At the end of the race we were the best we had been all night and that’s always a big, big plus. Being the ‘first in class’ among the Busch Series regulars is a big deal and now our sights are on the big win in Indy.”
Next for the No. 27 Brewco team will be the Kroger 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis on Saturday August 5. Television coverage of the race begins at 9:00 pm EST on TNT.
