Contact Ruins Strong Performance by David Green, No. 27 Brewco Kleenex® team in Milwaukee

In the Garage at MilwaukeeWest Allis, WI (June 26, 2006) – The No. 27 Brewco Kleenex® Ford Fusion was in the wrong place at the wrong time for the second straight week, as contact with another competitor stopped a charging David Green and turned a potential top-five finish into a 17th place effort in the AT&T 250 Saturday night.

Before the Kleenex® Ford team raced under the lights at The Milwaukee Mile Saturday, Green and others from the other Brewco Motorsports team visited the Kimberly-Clark facility in Neenah, Wisconsin, to meet with employees for an autograph session and other activities.

“What a big weekend my team and I had going,” Green said. “After a fun filled day in Neenah with our friends from Kimberly-Clark on Friday, we were poised to have a great night in Milwaukee on Saturday.”

On the track Saturday, Green and the No. 27 Brewco team were among the top-10 fastest cars in both practice sessions.

“After unloading awesome as we have last several races, we were at the top of the charts again,” said Green. “We had great practice sessions with a lot of good calculated adjustments that really fine tuned my car to my liking.”

The No. 27 Kleenex® Ford qualified in the 19th position.

“Qualifying was good, but we were just a little too loose to get the pole for the race,” Green said, “but the car was in great shape for night time racing.”

Once the race started, Green quickly charged through the filed, guided by Co-Crew Chief Shawn Parker and brother Mark Green, who spotted. By lap 34, the car was already in the 11th position. The Brewco pit crew kept the Kleenex® Ford in contention all night, with fast pit stops that allowed Green to keep the track position he fought so hard for.

The No. 27 Brewco team was in the seventh position when Green pitted on lap 208 for four tires and fuel. He moved up one more spot to sixth when on lap 219, a car that was three laps down banged off the right front of the Kleenex® Ford, turning the No. 27 around and causing extensive right front and body fender damage.

“The race was awesome until that happened,” Green said. “After a long green flag run, we drove up to sixth place and were knocking on fifth.  We restarted after a caution and I was underneath the fifth place car (No. 38), when the 41 car got into my right front fender getting into turn three, which spun us both. (Co-Crew Chief) Stewart (Cooper) and the guys did a great job trying to repair the damage, but it was too much to repair during our pit stops. Despite all that, I thought we sill had a top-13 finish in the books, until another car (No. 4), punted me out of the way in turns three and four on the last lap.

“It was a tough night with no luck on our side it seemed,” said Green. “It was really disappointing to watch our great night and top-five finish go out the window like that after the incident with the No. 41 car. But one thing is for sure: They knew we were there in Milwaukee. It was a great job by all the guys on our team. We'll keep digging and keep our heads up high.

“I'm very, very proud of both Shawn and Stewart for improvements on our car preparation and our overall communication,” Green said. “My team is showing that they are more focused than ever to figure out the new tire and the new Ford Fusion so we can make our way to Victory Lane. We’ve gained a lot of momentum in the last four races. With what we have learned the first half of the year, I'm very excited about the rest of the season.”

Next for the No. 27 Brewco team will be the Winn Dixie 250 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida on Friday June 30. Television coverage of the race begins at 7:30 pm EST on FX.
