David Green, No. 27 Scott® Bath Race Report from MIS

Brooklyn, MI (August 21, 2006) – David Green and the Brewco Motorsports team gained a spot in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings, despite struggling with the setup on their No. 27 Scott® Bath Ford Fusion at Michigan International Speedway. The team scored a 32nd-place finish in the CARFAX 250 Saturday afternoon.

Engine and grip concerns surfaced early on in the Friday practice sessions and the Brewco team, led by Co-Crew Chief Stewart Cooper, worked hard to make the needed adjustments. The team even replaced a motor following the second practice session in order to overhaul the car and find what they needed to be competitive Saturday.

“We brought a brand new car to MIS, with a different tire than we ran last year, when we were very competitive here,” Green said.

On race day, Green qualified the Scott® Bath Ford in 33rd place, but had to start from the rear of the field after the motor change.

“For much of the weekend, we fought grip issues,” Green said. “Our No. 27 Ford was loose in, tight in the middle, and was loose through the corner with no rear grip. That’s the worst scenario to have at a high speed track like MIS.”

The Brewco crew pitted early and often to work on the Scott® Bath Ford Fusion, but the handling issues continued.

“This was a very disappointing weekend for Stewart and I and the whole Scott® Bath/Kmart team,” Green said. “It seems we had a lot of company this weekend, because the tire we used caused a lot of teams fits, not just us. As always, Stewart and the guys never gave up, and tried feverishly to help get our issues solved, but unfortunately we didn't get the finish we were hoping for. We have to go back and study our data and be prepared for the upcoming California race, as I'm sure we'll use same tire there.

“On the bright side, staying off the wall and out of trouble enabled us to gain a spot in the points, which is always good,” Green said. “We'll take what we saw at MIS and use that to prepare for Fontana.”

Next for the No. 27 Brewco team will be the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday August 25. Television coverage of the race begins at 7:30 pm EST on TNT.
