David Green, No. 27 Kleenex® Brewco Team Finish 28th at ORP
Indianapolis, IN (August 7, 2006) – David Green and the No. 27 Kleenex® team struggled with the set-up of their Ford Fusion this weekend and despite major adjustments and fast pit stops by the Brewco Motorsports crew, ended the Kroger 200 in 28th place.
Co-Crew Chief Stewart Cooper led the Brewco team through a host of changes to the No. 27 Ford during the weekend’s two practice sessions.
“We took the same car to O’Reilly Raceway Park that we had at Gateway the week before,” Cooper said. “We knew the car was solid, after scoring a top-ten with it at Gateway, and expected more success with it this weekend. We learned early in the practice sessions that we had our work cut out for us, and focused on making the changes we needed to get the car just right for ORP.”
After the practice sessions, Green qualified the car in the 27th position and avoided the early wrecks in the race. The Brewco team pitted on lap 25 for four tires, fuel, and adjustments to the car and went back out on the track in 29th place. On a lap 55 caution, Co-Crew Chief Shawn Parker had the No. 27 Ford stay out on the track while other cars pitted, in order to gain track position. The Kleenex® team was running in eighth place after the caution, but as the race progressed, the struggle with the set-up continued.
“This was a very disappointing weekend for my team and I,” said Green. “It was especially frustrating because we felt like we had momentum heading into this Saturday’s race at ORP – one of my favorite tracks.
“We just missed the set-up throughout the weekend,” Green continued. “It was certainly not because of a lack of effort by the Brewco team. Stewart and the guys changed everything throughout practice but we never could make the progress we wanted. We'll learn from our data and be better at our upcoming races at Richmond, Memphis, and Phoenix at the end of the year, I promise. Thanks to all the Marsh Supermarkets folks for their friendship and support on our car this weekend. I’m already looking forward to next year at ORP.”
Next for the No. 27 Brewco team will be the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International on Saturday August 12. Television coverage of the race begins at 2:00 pm EST on NBC.
