Biffle and Brewco Get
Caught Up in the Big One
TALLADEGA, AL
(April 30) - Greg Biffle,
driver of the #66 Duraflame
Quick Coals Ford, started 33rd
and finished 36th
in the Aaron's 312 at
Talladega Superspeedway.
Biffle, who was making his
way to the front of the
field, was collected in a
multi-car accident on lap
sixteen of the one hundred
and seventeen lap event. In
an impressive display of
determination and skill,
Team Brewco was able to get
the 2002 NASCAR Busch Series
champion back on track to
secure valuable championship
points. Unfortunately, due
to severe body damage,
Biffle was unable to meet
NASCAR's mandatory minimum
speed and was forced to park
the #66 Duraflame Ford. As
a result of the finish,
Biffle, who has competed in
eight of ten NBS events this
season, fell from ninth to
twelfth in championship
standings.
Coming off of
their first victory since
2003, Team Brewco was eager
to return to racing action
in Talladega. Having had a
strong run at the
season-opener at Daytona,
expectations were high
entering the season's second
restrictor plate race.
After a disappointing
qualifying effort and
lengthy rain delay, spirits
were lifted at the drop of
the green flag. In an
effort to "play it safe"
Greg Biffle elected to
patiently work his way
through the field. To his
surprise, the race unfolded
in uniquely clean fashion.
Unfortunately, the driver of
the #66 Duraflame Ford got
into the thick of the
three-wide racing action a
lap too soon.
When asked
what caused the twenty-car
pileup, Greg Biffle stated,
"All I saw was the #18 car
going into the fence in the
wrong direction. I got
stopped, but the guys behind
me couldn't get stopped. I
wasn't in the wreck and then
somebody hit me from behind
and shoved me in there. I
knew it was going to happen,
I just wasn't sure when. I
was hanging back for quite a
while and it looked like
pretty clean racing, so I
decided I'd get up in there
and do a little bit of it.
Right as I got up in the
thick of stuff there I was
right in the middle of it."
"I hate it
for these guys. Anytime you
race at a place like this,
you have to be prepared for
anything. We tried to be
smart and stay out of
trouble, but end of getting
caught up in the 'big one.'
The guys did a great job
repairing the damage, and in
the end that allowed us to
gain a few extra points.
I'm ready to put this whole
weekend behind me and get to
Darlington," Biffle added.
Next up, Team
Brewco heads to Darlington
Raceway for the Diamond Hill
Plywood 200 on Friday, May 6th.
FX and MRN will provide live
coverage of the event
beginning at 7:30pm ET.
