Biffle Records Tenth
Top-Ten Finish of
Season
DOVER,
DE (June 4) - Greg
Biffle, driver of the
#66 Duraflame Quick
Coals Ford, started 4th
and finished 8th
in the MBNA RacePoints
200 at Dover
International
Speedway. Despite a
late race surge
through the field,
Biffle ultimately had
to settle for a solid
top-ten finish, his
tenth of the season.
With much of his
competition struggling
throughout the day,
Biffle remains seventh
in NASCAR Busch Series
driver's standings.
Team Brewco #66 sits
fourth in NBS owner's
points, one hundred
and thirty-two points
out of first.
Unloading fast off of
the truck on Thursday,
Greg Biffle and his
Brewco Motorsports
teammates were
optimistic heading
into Friday
afternoon's Busch Pole
qualifying session.
"This is the easiest
handling car I have
ever had at Dover.
It's absolutely
perfect. It makes my
job pretty easy and a
whole lot of fun to
show up each and every
week and have a car
that is this good.
I'm really looking
forward to Saturday's
race," Greg Biffle
added after Thursday
afternoon's first
practice session.
As
Mother Nature would
have it, Busch Pole
qualifying was
cancelled due to
inclement weather.
With the field set by
2005 NASCAR owner's
points, Biffle would
have to settle for a
fourth place starting
spot. "Outside second
row, we can work with
that. My only real
concern is that the
track is going to
change significantly.
Hopefully, I can get
some seat time in my
Cup car and learn a
little for the race
tomorrow," Biffle said
after Busch Pole
qualifying was
cancelled.
Despite
having two forty-five
minute Nextel Cup
practice sessions on
Saturday morning,
Biffle struggled early
in the race. "This
car is a handful- I'm
loose in and very
tight off. We've got
to do something soon,"
Biffle radioed on lap
twenty-three. Team
Brewco made their
first pit stop of the
day on lap
twenty-eight. To help
combat the tight
condition, the call
was made to drop right
side air pressures
three pounds. Biffle
would restart the race
in seventh place.
While
the change seemed to
help a little, Biffle
continued to struggle
with the ill-handling
racecar for much of
the race. Despite
having his hands full,
the 2002 NBS champion,
worked his way back
into the top-five by
lap fifty-eight.
Biffle headed to pit
road for a second time
on lap sixty. After
changing four tires
and pulling a spring
rubber from the right
rear, Biffle would
return to racing
action in
twelfth-place. Citing
an "aero-tight"
condition, Biffle
fought to work his way
back through the
field. Never one to
give-up, he continued
to dig deep and slowly
knock off positions.
A slow
pit stop on lap one
hundred and
thirty-eight cost
Biffle valuable track
position. With a
"freed-up" racecar,
Biffle remained
confident he could
regain a hand full of
spots. Unfortunately,
a series of untimely
cautions significantly
slowed his progress.
Disappointed but not
discouraged, Biffle
fought his way to
eighth place, before
the checkered flag
fell on lap two
hundred.
"That
car was a handful. We
were so tight early in
the race, but Newt
(crew chief Moore) did
a good job adjusting
on it all day. We
made some pretty major
changes, and by the
end of the race we had
a pretty good car.
Track position killed
us today. This place
is notoriously
difficult to pass at,
and you just can't
lose spots on pit
road. But with that
being said, it's hard
to make right side and
left side adjustments
and still be fast.
I'm still having a lot
of fun racing over
here, and will
definitely be watching
Aaron (Fike) next week
in Nashville," Biffle
added after posting
his tenth top-ten
finish of 2005.
Next
up, Team Brewco heads
to the Nashville
Superspeedway for the
Federated Auto Parts
300 on Saturday, June
11th.
Aaron Fike will make
his second start in
the #66 Team Brewco
Ford. FX and MRN will
provide live coverage
of the event beginning
at 7:30pm ET.
