Biffle
and Brewco
Score
Top-Ten
Finish in
Richmond
RICHMOND, VA
(September
9, 2005) -
Greg Biffle,
driver of
the #66 Dep®
Sport Ford,
started 23rd
and finished
10th
in the
Emerson
Radio 250 at
Richmond
International
Raceway.
Biffle, who
was making
his 21st
NASCAR Busch
Series start
of the
season for
Central
City,
KY-based
Brewco
Motorsports,
moved from
12th
to 11th
in NBS
drivers'
standings.
The 2002
series
champion is
a mere 53
points out
of the
elusive
top-ten,
despite
having
missed seven
events.
Team Brewco
#66 remains
sixth in
owners'
standings.
Unloading a
car that
finished
second at
Bristol
Motor
Speedway two
weekends
ago, Greg
Biffle and
his Brewco
Motorsports
teammates
were
optimistic
heading into
Friday
night's 250
lap race at
Richmond
International
Raceway.
With
practice,
qualifying,
and the race
all
scheduled
for Friday,
Team Brewco
had more
than their
fair share
of work cut
out for
them. Ever
the
professionals,
the young
group of
guys handled
the added
pressure in
remarkable
fashion.
Posting the
second
fastest lap
in the
morning
practice
session,
Biffle liked
his chances
for the
evening
race.
"Obviously
this car is
capable of
leading laps
and winning
races. Newt
(crew chief
Moore) and
the guys
have done a
great job
preparing
quality
racecars
week in and
week out.
I'm a little
concerned
about our
qualifying
draw. With
track
position
being at a
premium
hopefully we
can get a
solid
starting
spot and
work our way
to the
front,"
Biffle added
prior to
Busch Pole
qualifying.
Unfortunately
an early
qualifying
draw and a
late
afternoon
start would
greatly
affect
Biffle's
qualifying
lap. As a
result of
the warmer
track
conditions,
Biffle would
have to
settle for a
23rd
place
starting
spot.
Disappointed
but not
discouraged,
Team Brewco
set their
sights on
the
evening's
race. At
the drop of
the green
flag, Biffle
wasted
little time
slicing and
dicing his
way towards
the front of
the field.
By lap 38,
he had
worked his
way into the
top-15.
When asked
how his car
was
handling,
Biffle
radioed,
"I'm
chattering
the front
tires
through the
corners. I
don't know
if we have
too much air
pressure or
what."
During their
first pit
stop of the
night, the
call was
made to drop
air pressure
all the way
around and
make a minor
chassis
adjustment.
Biffle would
restart the
race in 19th
place.
Struggling
with the
tight
handling
racecar,
Biffle
patiently
worked to
regain the
track
position he
lost. By
lap 98, he
once again
cracked the
top-15.
Team Brewco
made their
second stop
of the
evening on
lap 100. In
an effort to
free up the
#66 Ford,
crew chief
Moore
decided to
raise the
track bar
one round.
By lap 144,
the 2002 NBS
champion had
worked his
way into the
top-ten. In
a race that
saw an
extraordinary
amount of
cautions,
Biffle did
an excellent
job avoiding
any contact-
that is
until lap
188. As
Biffle
attempted to
pass Robert
Pressley on
the inside,
the driver
of the #46
Ford came
down sending
both cars
spinning.
Fortunately,
Biffle
suffered
little
damage and
lost little
track
position.
"I'm not
sure what he
was
thinking.
It's like he
didn't even
know I was
there.
We're
alright
though- no
big deal,"
Biffle
added.
In his final
stop of the
night,
Biffle
headed to
pit road for
four fresh
tires and
minor
chassis
adjustment.
He would
restart 13th
with 48 laps
remaining.
At a track
known for
difficult
passing,
Biffle did
his best to
crack the
top-ten
before time
ran out.
Never one to
give up the
Vancouver,
WA native
reached his
goal by lap
237.
Caution
after
caution,
pace lap
after pace
lap, Biffle
watched as
he chances
for a win
slipped
away.
Biffle would
cross the
finish line
in 10th
place; his
fourth
top-ten in a
row.
"Not exactly
the night we
were looking
for, but
we'll take
it. This
track is
hard to pass
at, and we
kind of shot
ourselves in
the foot
during
qualifying.
Nevertheless,
it was a
solid
top-ten
finish and a
good points
night for
the team,"
Biffle said.
Next up,
Team Brewco
#66 heads to
Dover
International
Speedway for
the Dover
200 on
Saturday,
September 24th.
TNT and MRN
will provide
live
coverage of
the event
beginning at
1:00pm EDT.
Greg Biffle
will drive
the #66
United
States
Postal
Service Ford
in the
event.
