Brewco Motorsports Announces Addition to No. 27 Busch Series Team
Central City, KY (May 18, 2006) – Brewco Motorsports Inc. today announced the naming of Shawn Parker as co-crew chief on the team’s No. 27 Kleenex® Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Busch Series. He will share duties with current crew chief Stewart Cooper. Parker will continue to serve as crew chief on Brewco’s No. 62 Federated Auto Parts Ford in the ARCA RE/MAX Series with rookie driver Brad Coleman.
“We’re making this move now to help the overall performance of the No. 27 team by bringing in new ideas from an experienced ex crew chief,” said Clarence Brewer Jr., team owner. “We know we’re in a performance-based industry and with the competition as tough as it is this year in the Busch Series, we want to give our team members all the resources we can to make sure they are performing to the peak of their abilities.”
Cooper agrees with the move.
“I think it’s definitely gonna be better, for me anyway,” he said. “I don’t know that it’s going to change much structure-wise. All it’s going to do is have another mind there to give recommendations about what’s going on. We’ve got a young race team and everyone’s learning together. I think Shawn’s going to bring a lot to the table. He’s been in the picture since Daytona and this is just going give him a stronger presence on the No. 27 team.
“I’ve got some guys on this team that this is their first year doing it,” Cooper continued. “This business is a mistake-free environment and unfortunately there have been some mistakes made on my part and on some other people’s parts as well. With Shawn up there to help me, maybe those mistakes won’t happen and we can bring this No. 27 team up to where it needs to be.”
A veteran in the stockcar world, Parker held his first crew chef position at the age of 14, leading a local race team in his hometown of Canandaigua, New York. He has an extensive and impressive NASCAR resume, which began when he was a member of the original No. 24 DuPont team during Jeff Gordon’s Winston Cup debut. Parker has previously served as car chief on Mark Martin's No. 6 Ford, and as crew chief for Dale Jarrett’s No. 88 Ford.
“It’s hard to say what the outcome is going to be until we get some races under our belts with me being more involved,” Parker said of the No. 27 team. “It’s a tough situation. Stewart and I both want to do what’s best for the team. We’re going to put our heads together. It’s hard for one person to do it all. Having two people’s ideas – stronger ideas together – maybe something positive will come out of it. We’re going to try to get a stronger foundation to get the No. 27 team back to where it needs to be.”
