Flat Tire, Pit Stop Troubles Halt Promising Run for Schrader
Yard-Man Ford Finishes 25th
Bristol, TN (August 28, 2006) – Ken Schrader returned to Brewco Motorsports and the No. 66 Yard-Man Ford Fusion this weekend for the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The Yard-Man Ford was strong throughout practice and qualifying but a flat tire and problems on pit road made for a long night. Schrader rebounded and brought the Yard-Man Ford home 25th.
The Yard-Man Ford had a strong showing all weekend. Unloading fast, Schrader posted the 7th best time in first practice. During practice, crew chief Newt Moore told Schrader “the car looks so good it’s ridiculous. You’re just killing everyone.”
Moore’s qualifying setup proved accurate and Schrader started the Food City 250 13th. Schrader was running 12th on lap 22 when he reported a flat left rear tire. After taking left side tires, Schrader was back on the track just one lap down. Just a few laps later the caution flew and the Yard-Man Ford came back down pit road for four tires. After a costly miscue during the pit stop, Schrader restarted 39th, six laps down.
Schrader remained persistent, repeatedly asking who he had to pass to become the Lucky Dog. The Yard-Man Ford finally gained a lap back under caution on lap 120. Schrader managed to stay out of trouble and avoided numerous wrecks toward the end of the race. Slowly the Yard-Man Ford began gaining spots and when the checkered flag flew, Schrader was 25th.
“That was definitely disappointing,” said Schrader. “It seems we just can’t catch a break when I’m with these guys. The Yard-Man Ford was really good all weekend. We figured some things out in practice and we got good track position after qualifying. Bad luck happens, though. We still had some fun out there.”
