At 27 years old, Stewart Cooper has already accomplished more in NASCAR than those twice his age. After spending four years as a chief mechanic at Brewco Motorsports, Cooper took over as crew chief of the No. 27 Kleenex®/Scott® Brands Ford Taurus in the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series season.
Like many in the sport, Cooper began his career in his mid-teens. Before he was old enough to drive, Cooper began working as a general mechanic on Bobby Hamilton Jr.'s late-model stock car at Highland Rim Speedway. By the time he was sixteen, Cooper became crew chief on Casey Atwood's late model at Nashville Speedway.
While turning wrenches for the rookie sensation, Cooper balanced his time off track by enrolling at Vol State University. In a continuing effort to hone his skills, Cooper obtained an engineering degree from Kennedy-Western University.
In 1998, Cooper followed Atwood to LAR Racing where he served as a general mechanic and rear tire changer on a limited NASCAR Busch Series schedule.
A year later, Cooper got the break he was looking for. Still wanting to gain knowledge and advance his career, Cooper took a leap of faith and followed Atwood to Brewco Motorsports. Cooper served as the team's car chief for over a year. During that time, the pair won two races en route to a 13th place finish in championship standings.
In 2000, Cooper took an R&D job with newly developed Evernham Motorsports. After fine-tuning his engineering skills, Cooper returned to Brewco Motorsports in 2001 to work with rookie Jamie McMurray.
In 2003, Cooper was paired with NASCAR veteran and 1994 Series Champion David Green. In a banner year for Brewco Motorsports, the team recorded three wins en route to a second place finish in series standings. In 2004, Cooper helped lead Green to a top-ten points finish and last season marked the team's third consecutive year in the top ten. Cooper led Green and the No. 27 team to an eighth place finish in 2005, with one win, three top five, and six top ten finishes. Cooper will once again lead the Team Brewco pit crew toward their quest for championship honors in 2007 with veteran drivers Ward Burton and Jason Keller.
