Daytona Beach, FL (July 3, 2006) – Bad luck got the best of Scott Wimmer and Brewco Motorsports’ Duraflame team this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Wimmer was fastest on the speed charts following final practice and qualified 15th but had transmission problems early in the race. The Duraflame Ford was six laps down by the time repairs were finished and went on to finish 33rd.
Wimmer felt confident after practice, calling the Duraflame Ford “the best car [he had] ever driven at Daytona.” When the Winn-Dixie 250 began, Wimmer quickly lost a few spots and reported that the car was “really tight.” The race went green for the first 55 laps; resulting in green flag pit stops early on. Wimmer came down pit road on lap 48 for four tires and a track bar adjustment. Wimmer reported the Duraflame Ford was stuck between gears. Leaving pit road Wimmer couldn’t get into high gear and was pushed back into his pit stall for repairs. After making a second trip down pit road, the problem was fixed and Wimmer restarted 41st, six laps down.
Wimmer was fairly quiet over the radio, only reporting that he was still a little tight for most of the evening. Multiple late race cautions helped Wimmer’s running order and when the checkered flag fell, the Duraflame Ford was 33rd.
“We just can not catch a break,” said Wimmer. “It’s so frustrating to have such a good car and have the night ruined by something like that. I hate it for the guys at Brewco Motorsports and for Duraflame. We’re bound to have a good finish one of these days. We’re going to be really good at Loudon. Newt Moore and the guys have built a great Loudon car for me and we’ll put together the run we all know we’re capable of.”
