Dover, DE (June 5, 2006) – All season long, Scott Wimmer has been looking forward to racing the Duraflame quick coals Ford for Brewco Motorsports at Dover International Speedway; the home of his first NASCAR Busch Series win in 2002. A track that he says fits his driving style perfectly; the Monster Mile has been kind to Wimmer during his career.
The Duraflame quick coals Ford unloaded on the tight side but the Brewco Motorsports crew made multiple adjustments and felt they found the right setup for qualifying and the race. Their qualifying setup was never put to the test as the session was rained out on race morning. With the field set by owner’s points, the No. 66 Duraflame quick coals Ford started 26th. The weather cleared up in time for an on-schedule start of the StonebridgeRacing.com 200.
The Duraflame quick coals Ford was “tight in through the center and off” early in the race. After a track bar and air pressure adjustment during the first pit stop, Wimmer broke into the top 20 and reported that the car was “really, really good.” The Brewco Motorsports team had a slight scare during a 30 lap run around lap 120 when Wimmer reported that he could not hear the spotter. A few laps later under caution the radio problem was solved.
Wimmer went from tight to “real free” after adjustments during the next pit stop. Not wanting to lose the top-15 track position, crew chief Newt Moore made the call to stay out during a handful of late race cautions. The final pit stop came during lap 156. Wimmer restarted 16th and went on to finish 15th.
“That wasn’t the finish we were looking for,” said Wimmer. “The guys worked really hard to improve the Duraflame quick coals Ford during practice. We were pretty tight starting off and it went to loose later in the race. This track changes so much sometimes it’s hard to keep up. We’ll take it though. We had great pit stops all day. It was a strong day for us overall. I’ll be back in the No. 66 at Milwaukee which I’m really excited for.”
