Early Wreck, Late Penalty Halt Strong Run for Wimmer
Yard-Man Ford Fusion Finishes 29th

West Allis, WI (June 26, 2006) – Scott Wimmer’s return home to The Milwaukee Mile did not end as planned. The Yard-Man Ford suffered moderate damage to the left front after getting caught up in an early wreck. Wimmer had worked his way back up through the field when he received a pass through penalty on lap 192 for entering pit road too fast. Wimmer was caught three laps down and went on to finish 29th.
The weekend started well for the Wausau, WI native. The Yard-Man Ford unloaded fast and was 10th quickest in first practice. A loose car during qualifying led to Wimmer starting 27th but the team was confident their race setup would get the Yard-Man Ford to the front of the field.
Wimmer did just that, as he quickly brought the Yard-Man Ford from 27th to 15th. When the caution flew on lap 62, Wimmer said the car was “tight down in and free through the center.” The Brewco Motorsports crew gave Wimmer four fresh tires and a track bar adjustment and pulled half a rubber out of the right rear. Wimmer restarted 19th and was quickly back up to 15th when he was caught up in a Ron Hornaday wreck on lap 90. Suffering left front body damage, Wimmer brought the Yard-Man Ford down pit road for repairs.
After multiple trips down pit road, Wimmer restarted 27th. He was quickly up to 21st and despite the damage, reported that the Yard-Man Ford was “not that bad, just a little tight through the center and off.”
Wimmer was running 24th when the time came for green flag pit stops. Wimmer was issued a pass through penalty for entering pit road too fast. After serving the penalty, Wimmer was scored in 30th, two laps down. He went on to finish 29th.
“That was really disappointing,” said Wimmer. “The Yard-Man Ford was so good during practice; I really thought we had a great chance today. I killed it with that penalty – that was terrible of me and I hate it for everyone. We’ll keep our heads up. I’m driving again next weekend in Daytona. These guys always have good superspeedway cars and I’ve run really well at Daytona before. I’m excited to put this night behind us and move on and get a great finish for Duraflame in Daytona.”
