Cut tire ends day early for Wimmer, Duraflame Ford
Avondale, AZ (November 13, 2006) – With three top-11 finishes in his last four NASCAR Busch Series starts and a previous win at Phoenix International Raceway, Scott Wimmer was looking for a strong finish in Saturday’s Arizona Travel 200. The Duraflame Ford practiced and qualified well, but Wimmer cut a tire and hit the wall hard, ending the day early for the Brewco Motorsports team.
The Duraflame Ford Fusion unloaded fast. Wimmer was 9th fastest in first practice, saying the car was “really, really good.” Wimmer qualified 18th and the team felt they had one of the cars to beat.
Wimmer lost ground early in the Arizona Travel 200, complaining of a “real free” race car. The first chance to adjust on the Duraflame Ford came under caution on lap 56 where Crew Chief Newt Moore called for a track bar and air pressure adjustment. Wimmer restarted 22nd and quickly said the car was “a whole lot better.”
Wimmer was up to 16th when he told the crew he was “getting tight off of four” on lap 92. Wimmer hit the wall and cut a tire on lap 103, ending the day early for Brewco Motorsports’ Duraflame team.
“I hate it for these Brewco Motorsports guys,” said Wimmer. “I feel bad. I got into the wall a little bit coming off of two and then the tire went down in three. I think it was kind of a self-inflicted deal. We struggled there. We were real loose at the beginning and then we got real tight, and I drove it into the wall and then I finished it off in three. We'll be back at Homestead and hopefully we can get a win there."
